Signs from Our Children in the Afterlife: Are They Still With Us?

signs from the afterlife

For many grieving mothers, the longing to feel their child’s presence never fades. We search for reassurance, for signs that they are still with us in some way. But are those little moments—unexpected songs, flickering lights, feathers appearing in our path—just coincidences, or are they messages from our children?

If you’ve ever felt like your child was reaching out, this blog is for you. We’ll explore the common signs bereaved mothers report, different spiritual perspectives on afterlife communication, and how staying open to these experiences can bring comfort and healing.

My Personal Experience with Signs

I remember the first time I felt Katie’s presence after she passed. It was just hours later, in the quiet darkness of our bedroom. Lights danced on the wall, her favorite perfume filled the air, and I felt a presence so strong, it was undeniable. It was as if she had come to tell me she was safe on the other side. That moment changed everything for me.

Since then, I’ve remained open to the little ways she might be trying to reach me. Like so many other grieving moms, I’ve experienced signs that feel too personal and meaningful to be random.

Common Signs from Our Children in the Afterlife

While everyone’s experience is unique, certain signs tend to show up over and over for grieving parents. Have you experienced any of these?

✔️ Dream Visitations – These dreams feel more vivid and real than ordinary ones, often bringing a sense of peace and connection. Some mothers describe feeling their child’s touch or hearing their voice so clearly that they wake up in tears of joy.

✔️ Electrical Disturbances – Lights flickering, devices turning on by themselves, or phones ringing from “unknown” numbers at meaningful moments.

✔️ Finding Feathers, Coins, or Special Objects – Many Angel Moms find white feathers, dimes, or other small objects that hold deep meaning at just the right time.

✔️ Seeing Their Name or Birthdate Everywhere – Have you ever looked at the clock at the exact same time every day or noticed your child’s name in unexpected places?

✔️ Signs in Nature – Butterflies, cardinals, dragonflies, or other animals appearing when you need them most. Katie has left me white feathers in the dead of winter when no white birds are around.

✔️ Music or Words with Meaning – A favorite song playing on the radio out of nowhere or a phrase on a license plate that speaks directly to your heart.

Is It a Sign or Just a Coincidence?

It’s natural to question whether what you’re experiencing is real. Here’s how to tell the difference:

✔️ It feels deeply personal – If the sign is meaningful to your child or shows up in a way that connects to their memory, trust it.

✔️ It happens more than once – Repeated patterns are often a way for them to get your attention.

✔️ It brings peace, not fear – Your child’s spirit will always bring comfort, never distress.

✔️ It happens in a moment of need – When you’re struggling and suddenly feel a warm presence or receive a sign, that’s no accident.

At the same time, if you find yourself desperately searching for signs or feeling disappointed when you don’t get the one you asked for, take a step back. Our children send us what they believe we need, not necessarily what we want.

How to Invite More Signs and Stay Open to Connection

If you’re longing for a stronger connection with your child, try these practices:

✔️ Ask for a sign – Speak to your child out loud and ask them to send something specific.

✔️ Write them a letter – This is a powerful way to process your grief and open the door to connection.

✔️ Create rituals – Light a candle, keep a special item nearby, or talk to them daily.

✔️ Be still and listen – Sometimes, we’re too distracted to notice the signs they’re sending.

✔️ Trust your heart – If something makes you feel close to your child, believe in it.
